Deism Tributes to Heroic and Outstanding Freethinkers
We all have a need for inspiration. This
is why Thomas Paine wrote his inspiring and thought provoking series of
pamphlets, The Crisis. He wrote these moving pamphlets during
the darkest days of the American Revolution, when desertions of rebel
soldiers were high and the support for the cause in the general
population was low.
The below Deism tribute images and their profoundly beautiful, inspiring and thought provoking statements, are designed to get people thinking and to encourage Deists to always overcome any negative thoughts and feelings regarding the eventual success of Deism and our work for Deism in the Deism Revolution in Religion. They are all on glossy 8" X 10" photo paper and are suitable for framing. They're great to have up in your home or work place as a constant source of true inspiration and education! The proceeds they generate will be used in our struggle to carry on the Deism Revolution in Religion called for by Thomas Paine by promoting Deism and reaching new people with Deism. Each Deism tribute image is $9.00 or all eight for $50.00 (a savings of $22.00).
scholar and philosopher, Joseph Campbell, who is famous for his books on
myth and his belief that we should all "follow our bliss" made a
profound statement about the importance of Deism and the Deists who were
key founders of the American Revolution and the American Republic.
Campbell's quote is on this Deism tribute and states:
"The United States of America is the first nation in the world that was ever established on the basis of reason instead of simply warfare. There were eighteenth-century deists, these gentlemen [who founded the United States]. Over here [on the one dollar bill] we read, 'In God We Trust.' But that is not the god of the Bible. These men did not believe in a Fall. They did not think the mind of man was cut off from God. The mind of man, cleansed of secondary and merely temporal concerns, beholds with the radiance of a cleansed mirror a reflection of the rational mind of God. Reason puts you in touch with God. Consequently, for these men, there is no special revelation anywhere, and none is needed, because the mind of man cleared of its fallibilities is sufficiently capable of the knowledge of God. All people in the world are thus capable because all people in the world are capable of reason. All men are capable of reason. That is the fundamental principle of democracy. Because everybody's mind is capable of true knowledge, you don't have to have a special authority, or a special revelation telling you that this is the way things should be."
Joseph Campbell sure had a solid understanding of Deism!

Thomas Paine has done more than any
person to get the word out about Deism. In his amazing book,
The Age of
Reason, Paine countered the "great commission" attributed by the Bible
to the zombie Jesus at Matthew 28:16-20 in which the once dead, but now
alive, Jesus told his remaining 11 disciples that all power in heaven
and Earth had been given to him, Jesus, and that they should therefore
go "and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and
of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things
whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even
unto the end of the world. Amen."
Thomas Paine counters this nonsense with his Great Decommission found in The Age of Reason. Paine wrote:
"It is incumbent on every man who reverences the character of the Creator, and who wishes to lessen the catalogue of artificial miseries, and remove the cause that has sown persecutions thick
among mankind, to expel all ideas of revealed religion, as a dangerous
heresy and an impious fraud."

Giordano Bruno (January 1, 1548 - February 17, 1600) was an ordained Roman Catholic priest of the Dominican order. He possessed a strong desire to learn about God and what is true. This led him to study outside of the Christian texts and opened up his mind and his world to true science, to Nature and to Nature’s God.
Once his mind was enlightened, he no longer believed what the Catholic Church and the Bible taught. His writings openly and logically questioned such Catholic doctrine as belief the Eucharist actually turns into the body of Jesus and the claim of the virgin birth of Jesus. He also challenged the Bible teachings that the Earth is flat and the Sun circles the Earth. His belief that the stars are actually Suns that have their own solar system of planets and moons which probably have life on them also upset the Catholic clergy.
Bruno was arrested by the Inquisition in 1592. He was held in prison and tortured in an effort by the Christians to get him to apologize and recant his blasphemous beliefs and writings. Bravely Giordano Bruno refused. On February 17, 1600 he was publicly burned alive in Rome and his ashes were thrown into the Tiber River. However, thankfully, his ideas, ideal and inspirational courage still live on!
Giordano Bruno’s quote on this Deism tribute image is:
"Oh difficulties to be endured, cries the coward, the feather-head, the shuttlecock, the faint-heart. The task is not impossible, though hard. The craven must stand aside. Ordinary, easy tasks are for the commonplace and the herd. Rare, heroic, and divine men overcome the difficulties of the way and force an immortal palm from necessity. You may fail to reach your goal, but run the race nevertheless. Put forth your strength in so high a business. Strive on with your last breath."

Cayetano Ripoll is a hero and martyr of
and for Deism and progress. He was the last person to be murdered by the centuries
old Spanish Inquisition on July 26, 1826. His crime in the eyes of the
fear and ignorance based Catholic Church was using his innate God-given
reason which caused him to evolve out of Christianity and into Deism.
Not only was Cayetano Ripoll a Deist, he was teaching other people about
the beauty of Deism. Moments before the was hanged by the Inquisition,
Cayetano Ripoll said:
"I die reconciled to God and to man."
Cayetano Ripoll showed no fear of death, for Deists look at death as one of the Designer's designs, and we love and trust The Supreme Intelligence/God as our Creator and Friend. This must have been troubling for the Christian clergymen who ordered his murder. Cayetano Ripoll died without fear and confidently at the hands of Christianity because he had The Supreme Intelligence/God and purpose.

The great Renaissance artist, inventor
and thinker Leonardo da Vinci held Deistic beliefs. The Deputy Director
of the WUD, Jayson X (Jayson uses a pen name to protect his position as
a public school teacher in the Bible-belt) gave a speech at the Museum
of Science and Industry in Tampa, Florida a few years ago regarding
Leonardo da Vinci's religious beliefs. Jayson's research and speech show
that Leonardo da Vinci held strong Deistic beliefs.
This Deism tribute image has on it one of Leonardo's Deistic quotes which is:
"Thou, O God, dost sell unto us all good things at the price of labor."
Leonardo da Vinci's Deistic quote is in stark contrast to what the Bible attributes to Jesus, such as John 14:14 which says that Jesus said, "If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it." This embracing of work and action which is promoted in this simple but powerful quote of Leonardo da Vinci's makes clear Deists don't expect The Supreme Intelligence/God to do their work for them.

The famous physicist and chemist, Marie Curie, held Deistic beliefs.
Marie Curie is a great example of how damaging the nonsensical misogyny of the “revealed”/hearsay religions really is. This brilliant woman would have been silenced if the Christian teaching found at 1 Timothy 2:11-12 which reads, "Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence" was in effect.
One of her statements reveals her
Deistic beliefs and it goes directly and strongly against the
fear-mongering of the "revealed"/hearsay religions. Marie Curie said:
"Nothing is to be feared, it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less."
If taken seriously and acted upon, Marie Curie's statement would mean the end of all of the "revealed"/hearsay religions and a new dawn of progress for individual people and the world!

of the great Deists of the Enlightenment was Voltaire. He was an
outspoken Deist who often had to flee the authorities for his
provocative writings. He also defended people who were facing the death
penalty for blasphemy against the Bible and Christianity. A powerful
statement from Voltaire which attacks both "revealed"/hearsay religion
and Atheism is:
"What is faith? Is it to believe that which is evident? No. It is perfectly evident to my mind that there exists a necessary, eternal, supreme, and intelligent being. This is no matter of faith, but of reason."
This profound, thought provoking and inspiring quote from Voltaire makes an important point that is key to Deism: God gave us reason, not religion! What a liberating and empowering realization this is! The truth this quote promotes can connect with people who are currently under the influence of a “revealed”/hearsay religion as well as with people who are Atheists.

The American writer Samuel
Langhorne Clemens, better known as Mark Twain, is well
known for his popular books such as Tom Sawyer. Many people are not
aware that Mark Twain was a freethinker who held Deistic beliefs.
Twain recognized the damage the "revealed"/hearsay religions cause. In a letter to a woman who asked him about the Mormon religion, Mark Twain responded:
"Am I a friend to the Mormon religion? No. I would like to see it extirpated, but always by fair means, not these Congressional rascalities. If you can destroy it with a book, -- by arguments and facts, not brute force, -- you will do a good and wholesome work."
With this quote Mark Twain sums up how the Deism Revolution in Religion will be successful in freeing the world from the dark fear-based and violence producing superstitions of the “revealed”/hearsay religions - through reason and not violence. This, in and of itself, is positively revolutionary in its nature and has never been done in the history of humanity.

The survey shows a giant step forward for Deism in the fact that it actually uses the word "Deist" and for the very significant raw numbers it shows as representing the number of people who are Deists. In reality, the number of Deists is actually higher than the survey shows because the survey uses an outdated definition of Deist. For a more accurate definition please see our Deism Defined page.

One of the reasons the freethinker Giordano Bruno was tortured and murdered by being burned alive by the Catholic Church during the Inquisition was that he said the Universe is eternal and infinite which violates the superstitions in the Bible found in Genesis. This new study vindicates Bruno.
Obama supporters forget that when all is said and done, Obama is just another politician. This article shows he's proving that he is nothing but a politician by doing more than any other president to mix religion and government, especially through giving tax-dollars to religious organizations.
