Reason: The Only Oracle of Man is a hard hitting attack on superstition and "revealed" religion while encouraging the replacement of superstition in our lives and in our ideas of God with God-given reason and Nature.
Ethan Allen was an American Revolutionary War hero. He and his "Green Mountain Boys" captured Fort Ticonderoga from the British, thus securing much needed supplies and weapons for George Washington and his rebels. Allen also spent time as a prisoner of war of the British. After suffering greatly at the hands of his captors, he was freed through a prisoner exchange effort.
When Allen was a young man he became friends with Thomas Young, a freethinking medical doctor who was a Deist. Together they worked on Reason: The Only Oracle of Man. However, they went their separate ways when the American Revolution started, both supporting the revolution in their own ways. It wasn't until after the war and after Thomas Young died that Ethan Allen secured their manuscript for Reason: The Only Oracle of Man from Young's wife. He worked on it some more and finally had it printed in 1785.
This excellent book offers Deists and freethinkers loads of ammunition in the fight for reason and progress! Allen pulls no punches as he destroys the arguments of the revealed religionists with nothing but REASON! He not only demolishes the dogmas and teachings of the Bible and Judaism and Christianity, but he offers reason and Deism for a happy and natural replacement. A great and eye-opening read!

The survey shows a giant step forward for Deism in the fact that it actually uses the word "Deist" and for the very significant raw numbers it shows as representing the number of people who are Deists. In reality, the number of Deists is actually higher than the survey shows because the survey uses an outdated definition of Deist. For a more accurate definition please see our Deism Defined page.

The article makes clear the judge based his decision, not on the rule of law, but on the prevailing superstitions in Gwinnett County, Georgia! The fact that in 2009 people still really believe in devils and demons demonstrates clearly the NEED FOR DEISM AND GOD-GIVEN REASON!
Obama supporters forget that when all is said and done, Obama is just another politician. This article shows he's proving that he is nothing but a politician by doing more than any other president to mix religion and government, especially through giving tax-dollars to religious organizations.
