"Revealed" Religions and Mental Illness
Mental health is a very important and required element for a productive, progressive and happy life. The false claims made by the various "revealed" religions, especially when introduced at an early age, cause much mental anguish and pain to individuals which then has a great potential to have a negative effect on society in general. For example, the case of Andrea Yates who murdered her five little children because she thought Satan had possessed her and was soon going to possess her children. In her twisted Bible based mind, if she murdered her children before "the age of accountability" they would all go to heaven. She thought she'd be executed for the murders and Satan would die with her.
In a similar case which stinks of the Bible story of God telling Abraham to kill his son (Genesis 22:1-12), Deanna Laney (pictured at left in her mug shot and still covered in the blood of her innocent and helpless children) murdered two of her little boys by stoning them to death and then severely handicapped her third little boy. She did this because she thought God wanted her to do it to "prove her complete and unconditional faith in Him." Of course, God never told Abraham or Mrs. Laney or anyone else to murder their children! THE BIBLE IS WRONG!!! Our God-given reason tells us that the Bible is wrong! Unfortunately, the billions of people who are currently suffering from "revealed" religion put the teachings of the men who wrote the Bible and the men who voted it to be the word of God before God's gift to them of innate reason.
On April 4, 2004 a jury in Texas found Laney not guilty by reason of insanity. This verdict strongly suggests that to believe the horrific stories of the Bible the believer is flirting with insanity. Laney has subsequently been deemed sane and was released from court-ordered hospitalization. One of the stipulations of her release is that she does not have any unsupervised contact with children. Dr. Jones has written an outstanding book on this tragically overlooked subject. His book, Psychological Evolution & the Invention of EVIL - A Scientific Exposition, is extremely well written. I learned a great deal from it as it's written in a very lucid and lay-person friendly style. This outstanding book has a lot of potential to help a lot of people. The survey shows a giant step forward for Deism in the fact that it actually uses the word "Deist" and for the very significant raw numbers it shows as representing the number of people who are Deists. In reality, the number of Deists is actually higher than the survey shows because the survey uses an outdated definition of Deist. For a more accurate definition please see our Deism Defined page.

The article makes clear the judge based his decision, not on the rule of law, but on the prevailing superstitions in Gwinnett County, Georgia! The fact that in 2009 people still really believe in devils and demons demonstrates clearly the NEED FOR DEISM AND GOD-GIVEN REASON!
Obama supporters forget that when all is said and done, Obama is just another politician. This article shows he's proving that he is nothing but a politician by doing more than any other president to mix religion and government, especially through giving tax-dollars to religious organizations.
