The United Nations and Nature's God

A Draft Letter to the United Nations

Honorable Assembly, I am fully aware of your prestigious organization. You represent 192 nations each with one vote. Your Security Council is charged with resolving crises and promoting peace. You fought the Korean War. You are fully aware that many conflicts, such as that between the Arab countries and Israel, are driven by religious differences.

Such conflicts could be avoided and, if started, resolved if each group would accept one common fundamental truth that all of nature worldwide reveals one common Creator.

In each country there are flowers and trees, birds and fish, animals and humans. Only humans admire the marvels of nature. All of us know that nothing comes from nothing. So the wonders of nature came from some Supreme Being whom many call "NATURE'S GOD", that is: God as revealed by nature.

Humans realize that the intricate designs in nature, such as DNA, to name only one among trillions of others, presuppose and required Intelligence - Supreme Intelligence. But that is all that nature reveals about Him.

All the varying religions that are based on the belief of a God who favors them, comes from the imagination of humans. That belief inspires strife among humans, such as the conflict between the Arabs and the Jews.

I wish there were a way or a person who could convince each of your representatives of this truth. They could return to their country with this truth. At home they would try to convince their countrymen to accept this truth. That would be a giant step towards promoting peace worldwide, which is the main purpose and goal of the United Nations.

Hi Ray. Thanks for the email. I think this is a great idea! Living in a nuclear age while billions of people still hold firm to the war promoting ancient "revealed" religious myths that they are better than everyone else on earth in God's eyes (Deuteronomy 7:6), that God wants wars based on sacred teachings such as, "Those who believe do battle for the cause of Allah" (Surah 4:76), and "Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword" (Matthew 10:34 ), not to mention the various "end of the world" potentially self-fulfilling prophecies out there, it's obvious that the time for God given reason to replace these nonsensical "revealed" religious teachings is NOW! Deism is the best vehicle for this purpose! Once enough people realize that "revelations" are really only imaginations, the world will be much further from the brink of self-destruction.

A letter to the United Nations from the World Union of Deists addressing this important life or death issue, I believe, would help weaken the negative violence promoting teachings of the Abrahamic "revealed" religions, thus promoting peace, while at the same time it would be promoting Deism. And the same principles apply to the violence and war promoting teachings of the non-Abrahamic "revealed" religions as well. Thank you Ray for this outstanding win win idea!

We will soon have a blog up at deism.com for people to post their ideas and to give their input on Deism and other important topics and issues. When I put the blog up, I will have a section for input on what the letter to the UN should say. As you wrote before, "United we stand, divided we fall." The more thoughtful input we get from fellow Deists, the better the letter will be.

Thanks again for this solid progress promoting idea! It works well with the quote from fellow active Deist Mark Brochu, "With Deism World Peace is not only possible, it's inevitable!"

Progress! Bob Johnson
